P Bird: Handcrafted Guitar

As an avid musician and constant tinkerer, I’ve always wanted to take my guitar repair abilities to the next level by creating my own instrument. This project is a culmination of both feedback from my peers in the music community on what they would like in a guitar, and a personal learning experience in the luthier craft.

 Concept

The final direction features a simple single pickup and volume interface for a direct playing experience. The body shape recalls favorites like the Gibson Firebird and Fender Jazzmaster.

 Construction

Body and neck were cut and routed for components, then sanded and shaped by hand. Tolerances were extremely close to ensure proper fit and intonation. Finally components were installed, electronics wired up, and minor adjustments made.
